Uber Lawsuit – Sexual Assault Attorney

An Uber sexual assault lawsuit accuses Uber of failing to protect a passenger or driver from sexual assault. In some cases, Uber of Lyft have failed to properly vet predatory drivers. Our law firm is also investigating Lyft sex assault lawsuits. We represent people who were sexually assaulted as passengers or as drivers in Uber or Lyft vehicles. If you were assaulted in an Uber or Lyft vehicle, contact our law offices now for a free legal consultation regarding a potential Uber lawsuit or a Lyft lawsuit.

Nearly 6,000 Uber Sex Assaults

Uber revealed in December 2019 that nearly 6,000 sexual assaults in Uber vehicles were reported in the United States in 2017 and 2018.

450 Uber Rapes, 19 Assault Deaths

More than 450 women were raped in Uber’s reported sex assault cases. Nineteen (19) people were killed in Uber rides over the two-year period. Uber and Lyft both face increased pressure over the growing number of abuse complaints involving not only passengers, but also drivers as victims. Women Uber drivers are assaulted nearly as often as Uber passengers.

INDIVIDUAL CASES, INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION

We may file or settle a claim individually or as part of a group on a case-by-case basis.

Whether your claim is filed individually or as part of a group fighting the same defendant, our goal is always to provide each of our clients with individual attention.

Rapes Rise, Though Uber Claims Sex Assaults Decrease

The number of Uber sex assault reports increased from 2017 to 2018 in three of the five categories, including non-consensual sexual penetration and non-consensual touching of a sexual nature. However, Uber claimed the “incident rate” declined across the board based on a larger number of overall trips booked late in the year.

Uber’s report read: “From 2017 to 2018, Uber saw an approximate 6 percent decrease in the average incident rate across the five most serious sexual assault categories reported. Additionally, there were rate decreases across each of the five individual categories.”

Uber could also claim a decrease in fatal assault reports. Ten “fatal physical assaults” were reported in 2017, compared with nine fatal assaults in 2018.

Uber said that during 2017 and 2018, “[T]here were 19 fatal physical assaults occurring in a total of 18 incidents” that were related to the company’s services. Eight of the dead were riders; seven were drivers; four were third parties that included bystanders.

Uber’s PR Makeover

To help raise rider confidence and help answer litigation liability which has already begun for victims of (often) poorly-vetted Uber drivers or passengers, Uber has taken out full-page advertisements in the Wall Street Journal and elsewhere. Uber clearly timed the PR advertisements to help answer the shocking numbers of Uber riders who have been raped, assaulted, and/or killed during Uber rides.

Assaults On Uber Drivers

Uber’s data shows that 42 percent of people reporting sexual assault were drivers. The statistics suggest that both Uber and Lyft drivers are assaulted nearly as often as passengers.

Vox reported in December 2019 that more than 3,000 people were sexually assaulted during Uber rides in 2019. Data that same week showed 19 women Lyft drivers sued the company, charging that Lyft riders sexually assaulted them.

Most assault reports come from female drivers being fondled by drunken male passengers. “Non-consensual touching of a sexual body part” was the most commonly reported type of sexual assault on Uber rides: 1,560 such individual reports came in 2018.

Sleeping Uber Riders Assaulted

Many riders who reported Uber assaults said they had fallen asleep during a ride, then woken to find the driver attacking them. Uber reports  show that 92 percent of those who suffered sex assault which included penetration were passengers.

Unlike taxi drivers and other transportation employees, Uber and Lyft drivers (19% and 30% of whom are women, respectively) lack partitions separating them from perverse passengers.
