Ford F-150 Brake Inquiry

Timely Insights on Laws, Issues and New Developements

2014-Ford-F-150-Lariatw-HDPayloadPkgAnyone driving in or in front of a Ford F-150 pickup built in 2013 or 2014 may want to pay extra attention. Recent reports suggest the brakes can fail on the vehicles. The U.S. government is investigating.

420,000 Fords affected

The Associated Press reported today that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says it is probing the problem, which covers about 420,000 pickups with 3.5-liter engines, from model years 2013-14.

33 Complaints

NHTSA reports that it has received 33 complaints about the brake issue, including some drivers who say their brake pedals have suddenly gone to the floor with a complete loss of braking. Four drivers reported the problem caused crashes, but so far no injuries have been reported. Some drivers said their mechanics told them the problem was caused by brake fluid that had leaked from the master cylinder to the brake booster.

Other Ford Brake Systems same as F-150

Ford said in a statement that it takes customer safety seriously and will cooperate with the NHTSA investigation. Trucks with other engines could also be covered by the investigation. According to Ford, engines in other Ford vehicles have the same braking system as the F-150.
