Attorney Julie Matthews

Attorney Julie Matthews joined Matthews & Associates in 2016 to work on the firm’s growing personal injury case dockets filed against medical device and drug manufacturers. She previously worked for many years as a corporate attorney.  Her extensive corporate experience brings a unique perspective to her work representing plaintiffs at Matthews & Associates, giving her valuable insight into corporate structures, their legal strategies, and insurance and risk management practices – all of which she uses today to fight for her injured clients’ rights.

Ms. Matthews feels very fortunate to return to litigation on the side of plaintiff’s rights. 25+ Years of Litigation Experience

Ms. Matthews came to Matthews & Associates from American Girl, a division of Mattel, Inc. – a Fortune 500 company located in Madison, Wisconsin – where she served more than 18 years as a Director and Senior Counsel. At American Girl, she managed contract negotiations and legal issues across all channels, including digital, catalog, and 20+ retail stores nationwide, as well as in Canada and Mexico.  In addition, Ms. Matthews was responsible for the Risk Management Department, charged with managing claims, disputes, and litigation, including the company’s product liability and regulatory actions. Prior to her legal work at American Girl, she was Corporation Counsel for a public company that provided environmental consulting services, with more than 15 offices nationwide.

State Supreme Court Experience

Ms. Matthews was a member of the legal team that successfully argued a key insurance issue before the Wisconsin Supreme Court. She was appointed as head of Legal Regulatory, and negotiated with state and federal regulatory agencies regarding privacy issues, consumer complaints, and overall business compliance with regulatory requirements.

Privacy Rights Guardian

A fierce advocate for privacy rights, Ms. Matthews is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), and serves as the Health Insurance Privacy and Portability Act (HIPAA) compliance officer for Matthews & Associates, providing staff training in order to ensure privacy protections for our clients’ information.

Ms. Matthews received her law degree from South Texas College of Law. She worked at a Houston law firm and joined the Texas Bar, before moving back to her home state of Wisconsin to practice law.

Julie Matthews grew up in a small town with 5 siblings, where church, education, and giving back were familial as well as local priorities. She followed in her father’s footsteps as a lifelong supporter of United Way, building houses for Habitat for Humanity, supporting food banks, and since 2002, as a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.  In her free time, she golfs, practices yoga, aspires to travel, and enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, family, and friends.
