Medical personnel must utilize a special needle – the PowerLoc needle – to reach the bloodstream via the PowerPort. The needle delivers medicine and fluids to the patient, and it can also draw blood samples.

An imperfect device, the PowerPort can be compromised by issues that commonly affect other port-a-cath devices. The PowerPort can fracture, cause infection, and it can migrate in the body.
