A new German study shows Viagra, Levitra and Cialis greatly increase the risk of recurrent prostate cancer. Most prostate cancers in older men never invade or metastasize and they rarely kill those older men. Many doctors – like Marc S. Micozzi – question whether they should even be called “cancer.” However, points out Micozzi, the recurrent prostate cancer that now is associated with ED drugs can invade, metastasize and kill.
Nearly 5,000 Men Tested
Researchers in the German
study reviewed 4,752 cases of men who had undergone radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer between 2000 and 2010. Doctors treated 23.4 percent of the men following surgery with ED drugs, including Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis.
Prostate Cancer recurrence with ED Drugs
Over the following five years, 89 percent of the men treated with these ED drugs developed a recurrence of prostate cancer. By contrast, only 85 percent of men not treated with ED drugs had recurrence.
Medical Theory beats Facts
Researchers said these drugs “adversely impact” recurrence risk. Dr. Micozzi reported that this finding “astonished” them, as they had believed ED drugs would somehow protect against recurrent prostate cancer. Nevertheless, they aren’t going to allow facts to trump their theories. Astonishingly (one might say, to borrow their own term), they intend to continue giving ED drugs to prostate cancer victims. According to Dr. Micozzi, it is another victory for medical theory over facts. Presumably, the German study was paid for by the makers of ED drugs. That would seem to be the only conclusion that makes sens, but we’ll have to get back to you on that. . . We are researching the research now.
