Monsanto’s Roundup doubles Cancer Risk

monsanto miraclesTests spanning nearly three decades show Monsanto’s Roundup doubles cancer risk.  People exposed to Roundup double their risk of developing non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). It is not the first time NHL has been linked with herbicides.

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cases have increased dramatically over the past 30 years. This major  scientific review published in April 2014 by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggests chemical pesticides—particularly glyphosate, the main active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup – play a major role in fueling the cancer epidemic.

The NIH paper describes results from a systematic review and a series of meta-analyses of nearly three decades worth of epidemiologic research on the connection between non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and occupational exposure to agricultural pesticide active ingredients and chemical groups.

Roundup-Lymphoma Connection

The review was published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.  Its authors examined 44 papers to see how 80 active ingredients in 21 different chemical classes impacted farmers’ risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

NIH Review

The NIH wrote in their review of the nearly three decades of studies:   “. . . Random effects meta-analyses showed that phenoxy herbicides, carbamate insecticides, organophosphorus insecticides and the active ingredient lindane, an organochlorine insecticide, were positively associated with NHL. In a handful of papers, associations between pesticides and NHL subtypes were reported; B cell lymphoma was positively associated with phenoxy herbicides and the organophosphorus herbicide glyphosate. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was positively associated with phenoxy herbicide exposure.”

Compelling Evidence links Monsanto, Cancer

The studies examiners’ conclusion was predictably tepid. Monsanto and the FDA and other government entities have a long-standing revolving door policy with Monsanto executives quitting the Ag giant and then taking employment with the FDA or of representing Monsanto as FDA lawyers while working in government. Hilary Clinton was a Monsanto lawyer, for one; Donald Rumsfeld was a Monsanto vice president; Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was a Monsanto lawyer, President Barack Obama is  Monsanto’s number one lobbyist.the-hypocrisy-of-government-

Meet Corporatocracy Poster Boy Michael Taylor

Monsanto compromised the FDA most obviously when its former vice president for public policy, Michael Taylor, went back and forth through the revolving government-industry door, taking various jobs with the FDA – including Senior Advisor to the FDA Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner for Foods and Deputy Commissioner for Policy (neat trick, that). In one role as an FDA “advisor” Taylor was able to reach the conclusion that bovine growth hormone (rBGH)was safe for cows and people. Taylor was instrumental in foisting this unnecessary, toxic crap on cows and the public. (Cows shot with rBGH  get bone problems, swell up and give pus-filled milk.) The punch line is that Taylor had, while working with Monsanto, written the promotional and other PR material for rBGH, the same material he later stamped with the FDA’s seal of approval while working for the government agency.

The Monsanto Roundup Cancer Link review concluded: “Despite compelling evidence that NHL is associated with certain chemicals, this review indicates the need for investigations of a larger variety of pesticides in more geographic areas. . . ” (Nothing to see here, folks. Let’s not get crazy; let’s have more tests, keep the unnecessary, cancer-causing crap on the market so Monsanto can make a few more billion before we consider outlawing it like we did Monsanto’s Agent Orange, DDT and PCB’s decades after we should have.

Monsanto’s Endless Lies

The U.S. FDA gave Monsanto a free pass to let the Ag monster put nearly any genetically modified foods on your plate which the company told the FDA were safe. The agency took the unconscionable position of letting Monsanto test it on us first. No GMO study not paid for by Ag businesses like Monsanto has ever demonstrated GMO foods are safe or even as nutritious as the natural foods they’ve chemically perverted.

Monsanto’s Less Pesticide Lie

One of the biggest lies of genetically modified foods is the one Monsanto told and keeps telling – despite all the evidence to the contrary – about its GMO products needing fewer pesticides. (Even the Ag giant agrees with the world on this one, at least on the surface, that “pesticides are bad” )  Monsanto sold its products to FDA partially by this lie, and we now know it is a lie. Rodale News tells us that “Professor Chuck Benbrook, PhD, a research professor at Washington State University, recently found that between 1996 and 2011, GMO technology actually increased herbicide use by 527 million pounds—that’s an 11 percent bump. For one pound of insecticide avoided, four pounds of herbicides are used.”  Because weeds develop resistance to glyphosate, farmers are applying more and more of the cancer-causing poison.  Norwegian scientists recently found extreme levels of Roundup in a popular U.S. food ingredient.

It’s Raining Roundup

Roundup is now detected in rain all over the world, poisoning even those who imagine they are safe from it. Monsanto just spent $1 Billion to buy a climate modification company. They control more and more of the world’s food supply, and soon they may control the weather.

Monsanto Legacy of Shame

Monsanto doesn’t come by its awful reputation by accident. Monsanto produced Agent Orange and its main poison, Dioxin. Monsanto sold DDT, PCBs, a scourge if ever there was one, and Monsanto continues to sell the awful dairy cow (bovine growth) hormone, rBGH. It also sells the cancer-linked sweetener, Aspartame, which was rammed through for FDA approval by former Monsanto executive Donald Rumsfeld, right after he was chosen to serve in the Reagan administration. The revolving door arrangements for Monsanto never ends. President Barack Obama promised food labeling in 2007 during his run for the presidency, then signed the Monsanto protection act – which was written in collusion with Monsanto – once he got into office. It is a very big revolving door built between the halls of Monsanto and the back-slapping, glad-handing business of politics in Washington D.C.
