Update: $300 Million Benicar Settlement Announced
After several years of litigation in the federal court system, a Benicar settlement was announced on August 1, 2017, by the makers of the blood pressure drug. Diichi Sankyo offered financial compensation for certain people who experienced gastrointestinal problems that include:
- Chronic Diarrhea
- Nausea, Vomiting and Weight Loss
- Villous Atrophy
- Misdiagnosis of Celiac Disease
More than 2,000 lawsuits have been filed against Daiichi Sankyo and Forest Laboratories over their failure to warn consumers and the medical community about a link between Benicar and chronic diarrhea symptoms.
Under terms of the settlement offer, the drug maker will pay $300 million in financial compensation to resolve claims involving certain injuries stemming from the use of Benicar before May 2015.
Settlement Deadline August 23, 2017
For people who have not yet filed a lawsuit over Benicar gastrointestinal problems they had after using Benicar, there might still be a very limited time to pursue financial compensation. The settlement requires that any unfiled claims have a signed retainer agreement with an attorney before 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time on August 23, 2017.
A court-ordered census for all filed and unfiled claims must be filed by August 25. The deadline for the Benicar injury settlement will require eligible plaintiffs to submit an “Opt In Package.” At least 95% of all claimants must agree to accept the offer before the settlement will be finalized. Therefore, it is important that you take immediate steps if you believe that you or a loved one may be eligible to settle a Benicar injury claim.
What is Benicar?
Benicar is a blood pressure medication classified as an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB). Benicar is made by Diichi Sankyo, one of the world’s largest Big Pharma manufacturers. Benicar is prescribed by doctors to treat hypertension or high blood pressure. Those injured by this drug have sometimes suffered for years from chronic diarrhea, stomach problems, permanent damage to intestines. Benicar lawsuits charge that Diichi Sankyo has failed to research and provide adequate reports to the medical community regarding the serious side effects of Benicar.
